And so, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra – the woman said to be the true political legatee of assassinated Indian prime minister Indira Gandhi – will run for Parliament.

That settles a quarter-century question that has seized India ever since she began helping with her mother Sonia’s election campaign in 1999: Will she herself run for direct office some day?
