Forum: Time to relook if platform screen doors can be installed at LRT stations

I read with concern about the fatal incident at Segar LRT station (Man dies after falling in front of oncoming train at LRT station, May 18).
It led to a disruption of LRT services for about four hours, with emergency services, SMRT staff and bridging bus services activated.
This is not the first time such incidents have been reported.
In May 2023, then Senior Minister of State for Transport Amy Khor said in response to a question in Parliament that it would be difficult to install platform screen doors at LRT stations without substantially limiting the space available for commuters to sit or stand.
However, she said the feasibility of installing such doors would continue to be looked into, taking into account any new technologies coming into the market.
I wonder if the authorities can consider the possibility of using new technologies to install screen doors along the platforms of LRT stations.
