I welcome the announcement of The HomePage @ Causeway Point, particularly its focus on Singapore literature (Causeway Point to house social and reading hub with SingLit showcase and pre-loved books in 2028, Oct 22).

I would like to suggest that the space also consider hosting performing arts programmes, such as theatrical plays, storytelling performances and readings of local works.

Bringing the arts into a heartland shopping mall would make cultural experiences more accessible to residents, especially families with young children who may not regularly visit traditional arts venues in the city centre. For some, a performance at their neighbourhood mall could be their first introduction to theatre and the performing arts.

There is also an opportunity to build on the hub’s focus on SingLit by adapting local stories for the stage. Such collaborations could let audiences experience these stories beyond the printed page while creating opportunities for local artistes and theatre groups to showcase their work and reach new audiences.

A vibrant cultural space should not only encourage people to read, but also inspire them to experience, appreciate and participate in the arts.

By bringing literature and the performing arts together, The HomePage @ Causeway Point could become more than a reading hub – it could be a place where the community discovers the richness of Singapore’s creative and cultural landscape.
