We thank Mr Heng Keng Chun for his feedback ( Review the Silver Support Scheme criteria
The Silver Support Scheme is targeted at seniors who had lower incomes during their working years and now have little or no family support and resources in their retirement.
The total CPF contributions (TCC) criterion remains relevant as it is indicative of the incomes that seniors earned during their working years. The TCC threshold was doubled from $70,000 to $140,000 in 2021.
Additionally, in January 2025, the qualifying monthly per capita household income threshold was raised from $1,800 to $2,300, enabling more seniors to qualify. At the same time, quarterly payments were raised by 20 per cent to keep pace with inflation.
The Silver Support Scheme is part of a larger system of measures supporting seniors who need more help with their living expenses. Other measures include the Community Health Assist Scheme, GST Voucher schemes and U-Save rebates. Seniors in need can also consider seeking financial assistance from their nearest Social Service Office.
We periodically review the Silver Support Scheme criteria to ensure that it benefits seniors who need the support the most, and will continue to consider public feedback when doing so.
