We thank Mr Benjamin Goh Lye Huat for his letter “

Bring HomeTeamNS and Safra clubhouses under one organisation

” (Jan 12).

Safra and HomeTeamNS were established to recognise the contributions of national servicemen and build communities among them, through offering social and recreational facilities as well as engagement programmes at their clubhouses.

Those who served national service in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) are eligible for Safra memberships, while those who served in Singapore Police Force (SPF) and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) are eligible for HomeTeamNS memberships.

Having separate associations and clubhouses allows Safra and HomeTeamNS to foster a unique identity and esprit de corps, and tailor their facilities, services and programmes in ways that are more relevant and meaningful to their respective communities of national servicemen.

Since 1993, to improve access to the clubhouse facilities and services to all national servicemen, the two associations have established reciprocal arrangements that provide eligible members with shared access and benefits across seven Safra clubhouses and three HomeTeamNS clubhouses.

These include access to swimming pools, preferential rates for facilities booking, and benefits at entertainment and retail outlets, whether members are from the SAF or HomeTeam. Details of the reciprocal arrangements can be found on the websites of Safra and HomeTeamNS.

Both associations will continue to serve our SAF, SPF and SCDF national servicemen.
