I am concerned that some condominiums do not allow moving lorries to enter their premises for unloading. Instead, the lorries have to stop on the public road outside, while movers carry or trolley bulky household items into the development.
This seems to solve a condominium’s internal inconvenience by transferring it to everyone outside.
A lorry that could unload within the development and leave promptly may instead occupy roadside space, potentially obstructing traffic and inconveniencing other road users.
The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) should look at whether its requirements for new condominium developments adequately address this issue. It could consider mandating proper loading and unloading facilities for moving and delivery lorries in all new condominium developments, with suitable access to service lifts. Reasonable restrictions on timing and vehicle size can still be imposed by individual developments.
The basic principle should be straightforward: A private development should not be designed in a way that requires its essential deliveries and house moves to spill onto the surrounding public roads.
