A recent case of an AI-generated National Day banner in Kampong Chai Chee being taken down due to errors, including distorted depictions of the Singapore flag, has caught attention online.
While this banner may have been created by well-meaning senior volunteers, some have questioned the approval process that allowed it to be displayed in the first place, given the numerous issues with the banner. Indeed, this episode highlights the perils of adopting artificial intelligence without understanding its limitations, as well as the critical lack of human oversight in generative AI.
Today, every organisation and individual is jumping on the AI bandwagon, convinced that falling behind the curve will render us obsolete.
Human oversight remains essential to ensuring AI-generated output is free from hallucinations and inconsistencies, and fully complies with legal and regulatory standards.
