We appreciate and value the feedback of seasoned runners (

Runners let down by arrangement at start and finish of marathon

, Dec 17).

The staggered start format has been a longstanding practice at the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon and other major races globally (including world majors such as the Boston, Tokyo, Chicago, and New York City marathons), and is implemented primarily for participant safety and to ensure a smoother race experience. It helps reduce congestion on the course and at aid stations, allowing all runners to enjoy their run more comfortably.

Regarding the finish, our goal was to create an iconic experience inside the Padang, while bringing the festive atmosphere closer to spectators and catering to a wider audience. This is because when the finish line was previously at Anderson Bridge, participants shared that it felt isolated from the post-race village and suggested moving it inside the Padang for a more integrated experience.

Participant feedback also showed that our efforts to elevate the finish line experience with LED panels, music, and performances that celebrated every runner’s achievement were positively received by many in 2025.

We understand that race experiences can be subjective, and while many enjoyed the changes, we respect every runner’s perspective and will apply all feedback thoughtfully to improve future events.
