My wife and I, who recently celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary, were married on Dec 17, 1994.
It was the same day that Singapore were playing Pahang in the Malaysia Cup. Most of my guests, like me, were diehard Lions supporters.
To get them to grace our wedding reception at the former Great Eastern Hotel, I had to take our colour TV set from our house to the reception venue.
During the cake-cutting before the match started, the emcee asked me to predict the winner. I said Singapore would win 4-0 and my favourite player, Abbas Saad, would score a hat-trick. Never in my wildest dreams did I think my predictions would come true.
Each time Singapore scored a goal, many of our guests would rush over to where the TV was to watch the replay highlights.
This was indeed a memorable event I will cherish for the rest of my life. So thank you, The Straits Times, for the video clip “ A great time for Singapore football”
