We refer to the letter “Is it necessary to replace fully functional HDB fixtures?” (March 19).
The town council’s decision to replace the ground floor tiles at four selected HDB blocks was made following site inspections and earlier feedback from residents. Some tiles were heavily stained and could not be effectively restored through cleaning.
The tiles at the lift lobbies on upper floors were generally in good condition and did not require replacement. Similarly, floor tiles in the remaining 11 blocks under the same Repairs and Redecoration (R&R) programme were retained.
Across all 15 blocks in the R&R programme, several floor directory boards were found to be damaged or faded owing to wear and tear. They were replaced to ensure consistency across the estate, improve visibility and enhance the overall appearance.
The town council remains committed to working closely with residents to maintain our HDB estate. We will continue to exercise prudence in using resources while striving to provide a safe, vibrant and welcoming living environment for all.
