I refer to the article “SingPost, The Straits Times launch Singapore’s first stamps with changing images” (Sept 23).
We have a rich postal history. Singapore has come a long way from the pakcik posmen braving rural kampungs in mid-century khakis to the high-tech networks traversing modern Housing Board estates.
The upcoming Then & Now lenticular stamp collection and the Tiny Windows Into Singapore exhibition to mark World Post Day on Oct 9 is an opportune time to commemorate this.
However, hosting this free exhibition for just four days (Oct 8 to 11) creates a “blink-and-you-miss-it” window. This brief timeline makes it challenging for schools to organise educational trips, or for working parents to visit with their children.
I also hope the exhibition can be extended beyond SingPost Centre to make it more accessible.
Bringing the showcase to regional libraries, community clubs, and even active ageing centres will allow residents to engage with our shared history right at their doorstep.
