Why have different CDC vouchers?

Why is there a need to have different CDC vouchers for heartland merchants and hawkers, and for supermarkets? After all, the vouchers are given to provide immediate support for households and help defray daily expenses.

Some people eat out more often, while others might find groceries more useful.

Also, why exclude foodcourts at shopping malls? Many people find them more comfortable and convenient.

Canteen vendors too need hiring help

I refer to the article

“Hawkers can hire more long-term visit pass holders as stall assistants from 2025”

(Oct 14).

This is good news as it will alleviate a lot of manpower issues for Singapore’s hawkers.

I hope that this move can be extended to school canteen vendors as well; they are currently allowed to hire only Singaporeans or permanent residents as their assistants.

Humane way to control wildlife numbers

Because of the loss of habitat or reduced food sources, wild animals are more frequently intruding into urban spaces to look for food.

There have been reported cases of ornamental fish or food in residences being gobbled up, and residents being attacked.

Perhaps the National Parks Board should consider the humane method described in the article

“Chilean scientists develop reversible dog neutering jab”

(Oct 6) to keep the monkey population, in particular, to a manageable level.
