The Non-Constituency Member of Parliament (NCMP) scheme was introduced in 1984 to ensure a minimum number of opposition members in Parliament. NCMPs are chosen from the “best losers” among the opposition candidates.
While the term may be accurate in a numerical sense, I feel the label “loser” is wrong as these candidates have had the courage and determination to step up to engage in political activities.
They sacrifice their private life, open themselves to public scrutiny and commit themselves to serve the nation.
We should give due respect to such individuals as it takes a lot of guts to stand up and speak up. They are anything but losers.
