This is not the first time we read of serious violence inflicted by someone on his biological child, stepchild or child of his partner, and I believe it will not be the last ( Man used phone to hit girlfriend’s son, 3, for crying, choked him till he was unconscious
I suggest that the Ministry of Social and Family Development set up a body helmed by a minister of state to investigate and rehabilitate children violently abused by a family member or close friend of the family.
This agency will have to work with the police, medical agencies and other institutions to get prompt help to the victim and ensure the child is moved to a haven to recuperate and to overcome the horrific pain and trauma, and have his progress charted.
There must be regular outreach and publicity to let residents know how to report such abuses so that the child does not have to suffer more, or even die. We certainly can do more for the bullied and battered child.
Act fast and the child can probably be saved. Otherwise, it will be another tragic death, or report on grave injuries, that we will read about in the media.
