Forum: Concern over extensive roadworks across Singapore

Roadworks appear to be occurring extensively across our expressways, major roads and even smaller residential streets. Even our relatively small housing estate at Sunrise Villa has not been spared.

I understand that many of these works, including drainage improvements and essential infrastructure upgrades, are necessary.

However, my concern is the scale and simultaneous nature of these projects.

When roadworks are carried out in numerous locations at the same time, the cumulative impact on traffic flow and the daily lives of residents becomes considerable.

For pedestrians, the situation can be particularly challenging.

Walking from my home to the bus stop has become hazardous, as pedestrians are sometimes required to manoeuvre between pavements, temporary walkways and areas affected by roadworks, while vehicles and motorcycles continue to pass nearby.

Motorists, bus drivers, motorcyclists and cyclists are also affected.

Do so many projects need to be carried out concurrently?

Could the authorities consider better coordination and phasing of roadworks, particularly in areas where there are several projects taking place in close proximity?

I hope the Land Transport Authority, together with the agencies and contractors involved, can review the current approach.
