Forum: Suitcases in bus may pose safety risk

I recently boarded bus service 36 and noticed that the bus was packed with commuters going to Changi Airport. Some had suitcases meant for checking in.

The suitcases were placed along the aisle, on seats and in front of them, with two passengers occupying four seats as a result.

I had to squeeze my way past the baggage while boarding and disembarking.

I realise that the bus is an economical way to travel to the airport. But this was a regular bus service that is not designed to accommodate passengers carrying big bags, unlike buses serving the airport that have baggage racks to stow bags.

I am also concerned about safety. If there had been a fire on board, it would have been difficult for passengers to evacuate quickly.

Travellers going to the airport with suitcases should be encouraged to take the MRT instead.
