I recently tried to teach my 80-year-old father how to use his new phone.

What started off as a simple technology tutorial quickly turned into a mirror for self-reflection. As I found myself repeating instructions over and over again, I realised I was getting a little impatient.

And then it hit me.

When I interact with seniors or strangers, I naturally slow down, smile more, and show empathy. Yet, I was less generous with my patience with my own father, who is someone I love dearly.

Maybe it’s because we expect more from our loved ones. Or maybe we forget that they, too, are learning in their own way.

Let’s remind ourselves: Be kind to others, and even kinder to our family.
