MANILA • The image of gobs of creamy white soya pudding splattered on a blue police uniform has in recent days come to symbolise for many Filipinos all that is wrong in their country's relationship with China.
Deep-seated resentment spilled out in the open over the episode involving Zhang Jiale, a 23-year-old Chinese student, who hurled the dessert (a local delicacy called taho) at Filipino police officer William Cristobal, who tried to enforce the rule against taking drinks into the metro station.
