TAIPEI – After queueing for more than an hour at my bank in Taipei, I am finally called up to the counter. Then, there is the paperwork. 

Receiving an international wire transfer of a few hundred US dollars requires signatures on multiple paper forms, alongside a stated purpose of my funds. Exchanging the cash into Taiwan dollars then requires filling out a whole other set of physical documents.
