Don't penalise teachers who care enough to go the extra mile

In the months leading up to the dreaded Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE), my form teacher, Miss K, set up a makeshift library in our classroom and put me in charge of managing its operations.

She had assembled a bookcase from Ikea, added multiple candy-coloured plastic stools, and hung up a blue and white bathroom curtain as a divider, transforming a corner of our classroom into a cheerful reading nook.
