In 2018, e-commerce giant Amazon was testing an artificial intelligence (AI) recruitment tool, which found that men were more desirable recruits than women.
The AI system had been trained on data submitted by job applicants over the previous 10 years, most of which came from men. So, the system determined that hiring men was preferable to hiring women.
