And so, former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg has now soared to second place in the polls of potential Democratic candidates to wear the mantle of taking on President Donald Trump in the November 2020 American presidential race.

Having outspent all party rivals combined - reportedly US$417 million (S$584 million) in the last four months - Mr Bloomberg's recent surge in the polls earned him a place in the debate that took place Asian time yesterday morning.
