Elderly parents may cling to familiar routines, or stubbornly stick to decisions, in order to maintain a sense of autonomy and identity, as ageing strips away the control they have over their lives.

The phenomenon of “stubborn parents” is quite widespread, it would seem, according to an exploratory study conducted in 2016.
