America First, even without Trump

US foreign policy is likely to continue its isolationist trajectory, given the underlying pressures on whoever wins the 2020 elections.

You would be forgiven for not noticing, among all the political noise and insults currently being traded between the US Congress and the White House in Washington that the Trump presidency has just reached a historic moment: its half-way mark.

In less than a year from now, Mr Trump will have to redirect all his energies to his re-election campaign. And in two years from now, a new president may well replace "The Donald" in the White House.
