I don't want a lot for Christmas. And no, I'm not just quoting Mariah Carey: I am actually not looking to get Christmas presents. In fact, I feel we ought to rethink this whole gift-giving business.
Don't get me wrong: a gift, sincerely given and truly desired, is a beautiful thing. But, more often than not, gifts are given because of the social pressure of a special occasion - Christmas or birthdays - or to reassert your ties with someone, like your spouse, co-worker or in-law.
