1819 - the start of a modern, multicultural Singapore

While Singapore was a thriving port long before Raffles arrived, 1819 was a crucial turning point that set the island on the path to the nation it is today, says Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. Here is his speech at the launch of The Singapore Bicentennial on Monday
