SINGAPORE - The Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) exit on East Coast Parkway (ECP) was closed on Wednesday morning due to an accident, according to a tweet by the Land Transport Authority (LTA).
The accident involving a tow truck and a trailer occurred on a filter road on exit 1 towards PIE (Tuas) and Tampines Expressway (TPE) near Airport Boulevard. The 16-wheel trailer toppled on its left and hit some barricades bordering a construction site for Changi Airport Terminal 4. The tow truck was towing a concrete pump when the incident happened, the police said.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it received a call at 7.46am. Two Red Rhinos, one fire engine and two support vehicles were sent to the scene. The 37-year-old driver of the trailer, who was trapped inside the vehicle, was rescued at about 10.20am and taken to Changi General Hospital.

The police received a call alerting them to the incident at about 7.30am. The exit opened again almost 11 hours later.
There were at least five other accidents in Singapore on Wednesday.
One accident - involving three taxis and five cars - happened along Ayer Rajah Expressway in the direction towards Tuas. The police said they were alerted to the incident at about 8.50am. A 25-year-old man was taken conscious to Singapore General Hospital.
