SINGAPORE - After being closed for nearly two years, Universal Studios Singapore's main attraction, the Battlestar Galactica, will finally reopen on May 27, with tweaks such as two-seater instead of four-seater vehicles.

Themed after the hit American sci-fi series about a war between humans and a robotic race, the ride on Sentosa features two roller coasters running for 90 seconds on intertwined but separate tracks, twisting and spinning at up to 90km per hour.

It is touted as the world's tallest duelling roller coasters at a height of 42.5m. In the human track, riders sit in the vehicles while in the other, the seats are suspended below the tracks with passenger's legs dangling freely.

Ups and downs of the Battlestar Galactica

March 2010: Barely a week after Universal Studios Singapore - the theme park in Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) - opened, a seat fell off the ride during a routine test. No one was hurt, but the ride's licence was suspended immediately.

February 2011: The authorities re-certified Battlestar Galactica as safe for use. The ride reopened after 11 months of investigations, redesigning, reassembling and testing.

July 2013: RWS closed the ride as it wanted to review the attraction.

May 2015: Ride slated to open again on May 27.
