The hottest pick for the Jubilee Baby Gift is a special medallion or coin.

The voting period for a set of items that will be given to Singaporeans born next year - the country's Golden Jubilee - ended last Thursday, with close to 20,000 votes.

The commemorative medallion nabbed 61 per cent of the votes, leaving the other 14 items on the shortlist in the dust, according to poll results on the Jubilee Baby Gift website set up by the National Population and Talent Division (NPTD).

The second most popular choice - a multi-functional shawl - received 47 per cent of the votes.

This was followed closely by a baby sling at 44 per cent, a set of baby clothes at 42 per cent, and a diaper bag and a scrapbook for baby memories, which both received 41 per cent of the votes each.

Members of the public had earlier submitted over 6,500 gift ideas which were whittled down to a shortlist of 15 items. They then voted for their favourite five out of the 15.

On the Jubilee Baby Gift website, the NPTD said some people picked practical items, while others looked at how much historical value it would hold once the baby had grown up.

The final list of items in the bundle will be announced later this year.
