In Pictures: Singapore's Botanic Gardens

The 156-year-old Botanic Gardens is bidding to become the country's first Unesco World Heritage Site, with a decision expected to be made in late June or early July.

It had already received a major boost on May 16 when a panel of experts from the International Council on Monuments and Sites (Icomos) recommended that the historical site be inscribed as one - the best of four possible results from a recent technical assessment.
