SINGAPORE - Catch up on the hottest topics on The Straits Times' weekday talk show.

The Big Story, broadcast every weekday at 5.30pm on Facebook and YouTube, has reporters and senior editors discussing the top stories of the day.

The show is helmed by multimedia correspondent Hairianto Diman and assistant video editor Olivia Quay, and airs live from ST's digital studio.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced that installation of a new onboard unit (OBU) to replace the current in-vehicle unit will start in the latter half of next year.

In addition to providing information on ERP charging locations and rates, the OBU will also give real-time road traffic updates and locations of nearby School Zones and Silver Zones.

While motorists generally welcome the additional features of the next-generation Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) system, they feel its three-piece OBU is clunky, inelegant and takes up too much space.

We will speak to senior transport correspondent Christopher Tan on how this new ERP system will affect driving behaviour in Singapore, and whether it will cost more for drivers.

The Great Singapore Sale (GSS) kicks off on Wednesday (Sept 9) and for the first time in 26 years, it will be largely online.

Retail experts said the online GSS might give local players a boost amid the economic downturn but added that more awareness of the event is needed.

Singapore Polytechnic's School of Business senior lecturer Amos Tan will share more on how the event has fared on the marketing front and what more can be done.
