SINGAPORE - Catch up on the hottest topics on The Straits Times' weekday talk show.

The Big Story, broadcast every weekday at 5.30pm on Facebook and YouTube, has reporters and senior editors discussing the top stories of the day.

The show is helmed by multimedia correspondent Hairianto Diman and assistant video editor Olivia Quay, and airs live from ST's digital studio.

On Tuesday (Sept 1), Manpower Minister Josephine Teo said in Parliament that imposing quotas on higher-end foreign professionals on Employment Passes (EP) is not unthinkable, but such a move would probably be unwise.

She added that it is better to use salary requirements to ensure companies can access foreign professionals of the right quality while committing to build up their local staff over time.

Assistant news editor Lim Yan Liang will discuss Mrs Teo's speech and the different proposals by several MPs to save jobs and uplift low-wage workers.

Separately, a recent family cluster of five Covid-19 cases from two households has been identified. Two restaurants and a bar were also ordered to close after they were found to have flouted safe management rules.

National University of Singapore's Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health dean, Professor Teo Yik Ying, will weigh in on whether Singaporeans have let their guard down in the fight against Covid-19.

Topics covered in previous episodes of The Big Story include the future of nightlife in Singapore, and the rights of a retrenched worker.
