It's cool to dip in hot chillies

While most people look for ways to cool down during summer, these brave contestants in the Spicy Barrel Challenge in Chongqing, China, have put themselves in the hot seat.

Participants have to sit for five minutes in a giant tub filled with four kinds of hot chillies.

It may seem like a brief hot spell but contest organisers told Taiwan News that the chilli-soaked water feels like "pouring oil on fire".

Chongqing residents, however, seem to be cool about handling heat.

After all, the city is often called the spice centre of south-western Sichuan province and is famous for its tongue-searing hotpot filled with peppercorns and dried chillies.

Chongqing is also known for its scorching summers, which can hit a high of 44 deg C.
