In Pictures: S-League through the years

The S-League was officially launched in 1996 as Singapore's professional football league after the Republic’s withdrawal from the Malaysia Cup in 1994.
There were two main sponsors, eight competing clubs and an average attendance of about 3,000 fans for the inaugural season.
Geylang United FC was the first season’s champions after winning 2-1 against Singapore Armed Forces FC (now known as Warriors FC) in the title-deciding match which drew a capacity crowd of 30,000 at the National Stadium.
Now in its 22nd year, the 2017 S-League season opened with a match between Albirex Niigata and Tampines Rovers FC on Feb 26, 2017.
