Swimmers enjoy the iconic slides at Big Splash in 1977. It was built by Singapore Aquatic Sports that year. At the time, addmission prices during weekdays were $1.50 for adults and $1 for children for the first two hours and 50 cents for every subseqent two hours.

Then Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew on his way to plant a raintree sapling at the site of the future East Coast Park swimming lagoon in 1972. The lagoon would be completed four years later and be able to accommodate up to 6,000 people.
