Having a ball of a time

A child playing with a huge red ball installed between two buildings as part of the RedBall Project by artist Kurt Perschke in Marseille, France, on Wednesday.

The project is an art initiative that started in 2001. The red ball has travelled the globe, wedging itself between famous landmarks in cities like Paris, Perth, London, Los Angeles and Toronto.

The main aim of the project is to "access the imagination embedded in all of us", said the New York artist.

"On the surface, the experience seems to be about the ball itself as an object, but the true power of the project is what it can create for those who experience it. It opens a doorway to imagine 'what if?'"

The RedBall Project is touring Marseille from Sept 19 to today, changing its location each day.
