Adding to the glitz and the glamour of the Singapore International Jewellery Expo yesterday was this earring at the DeGem booth. The piece is crafted with a nearly 25-carat Colombian emerald.

The gem is dome cut on one side, with a faceted cut on the other - which is extremely rare for a stone of such high quality.

The expo, which opened yesterday, is on at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre until Sunday. It is the region's largest consumer jewellery show.

This is its fifth edition in Singapore, and brings together some of the world's leading jewellers from places like Italy, Hong Kong and India, exhibiting more than US$150 million (S$207 million) worth of gems and accessories.

The crown jewel of the event is a 266.25-carat emerald, valued at an estimated US$1.88 million, at the Jocalia by Zenith Affair booth.
