Fighting to keep their homes

People dressed as houses standing alongside model homes during a march held on World Habitat Day in central Phnom Penh yesterday.

Former residents of Boeung Kak lake, Borei Keila neighbourhood and other communities affected by private development gathered and called on the Cambodian government to stop evicting them from their homes, local media said.

The United Nations' World Habitat Day is held annually on the first Monday of October with the aim of having people reflect on the state of human settlements and people's right to sufficient shelter.

It also aims to remind people that they are responsible for the habitats of future generations.
