The site which previously housed Funan DigitaLife Mall in North Bridge Road was a hive of activity on Tuesday as workers dug, drilled and hammered away in preparation for a new development.

The old mall, which specialised in electronics and IT-related goods, is getting a do-over as a "lifestyle destination", with offices, serviced residences and retail stores brought together in one place.

The project will create 887,000 sq ft of total gross floor area, almost double its current size of 482,000 sq ft.

Work on the $560 million integrated development is expected to be completed in three years.

Developers hope that the mixed-use complex will complement the revitalised Civic and Cultural District.
