Carried away by balloon fiesta

Lithuania marked 100 years of independence at the weekend with 100 hot air balloons flown over its second largest city, Kaunas.

The Hot Air Balloon Fiesta Wind of Freedom was part of the festi-vities organised for Lithuania's Statehood Day. The colourful event was also dedicated to the commemoration of the Coronation of Mindaugas, the first known Grand Duke of Lithuania and the only King of Lithuania.

He was crowned King of Lithuania in 1253 and ruled for 10 years. He founded the first independent Lithuanian state in 1240.
