Birthday bash in full bloom

Dramatic projections of flowers on eight of the 18 Supertrees and flames shooting out from the 22m-high OCBC Skyway brought the Supertree Grove alive during a full-dress rehearsal of the Gardens Extravaganza Special yesterday evening.

The 30-minute multimedia show is part of Gardens by the Bay's fifth anniversary celebrations, which are taking place this weekend.

Fire twirlers, stilt walkers and aerial performers will complete the visual showcase before drones take to the sky, coming together to create a series of formations - the number "5", the conservatories and the Supertrees, among others.

Opened in June 2012, Gardens by the Bay has welcomed more than 33 million visitors, and is home to over 1.5 million plants from some 5,000 species all over the world.

The weekend events will also include a food bazaar, a dance party and an outdoor movie screening.
