Ancient giants on the march

It's a full house for these card figures in the Giant Procession in Antwerp, Belgium.

About 140 giants from Belgium's Flanders region participated in the 40th procession last Saturday, said Xinhua.

Giants have been built in Europe since the Middle Ages, according to travel blog Wonderful Wanderings. Their original purpose was to scare away thieves and attackers. Many of the giants were destroyed over time, but there are still about 1,500 of them in Belgium.
