Riding ponies, nature yoga, and more in unusual Singapore pre-schools

From feeding ponies to having a Sentosa aquarium as their “classroom”, these pre-schools offer something other places don’t for parents looking for something unusual for their kids.

1. Learn, play on Sentosa

The MindChamps PreSchool Sentosa centre within the Resorts World Sentosa complex will offer students access to the Hard Rock Hotel’s sand pit since it’s located at the hotel.

The pre-school is working with the RWS S.E.A. Aquarium to curate programmes. Kids keen on marine life may be able take part in a beach clean-up, or interview an aquarist.

2. Harnessing horsepower

Children at MapleBear Horse City enjoy rides, grooming and feeding sessions with horses. By caring for animals, kids learn to care for others, says MapleBear.

“This confidence-building is a big part of getting them ready for the future. It’s not just studying. It’s being able to try anything, not afraid to fall, not afraid to have an adventure.”

3. YOGA AND MINDFULNESS

Pre-Covid-19, children at PPIS Bukit Batok did yoga during nature treks. Now, they hold poses inside the centre run by the Singapore Muslim Women’s Association (PPIS).

They also play in a space called Kampung Bukit Batok, which celebrates Malay culture. It won the National Heritage Board’s School Heritage Champion Award in 2017.
