LOCAL FAST-FOOD CHAIN OPENS IN JURONG

Craving fried chicken? Home-grown fast-food chain Arnold's Fried Chicken, which was founded more than 30 years ago, opened its fifth outlet last week.

Its latest outlet, located at The Frontier Community Club in Jurong West Central 3, is the chain's first foray into the western end of the island. The chain had previously expanded in only the eastern and northern parts of Singapore.

A RECIPE TO TRY

Simmered onions form a hearty base for a stew. Try The New York Times' recipe for a beer-braised beef and onion stew made with Spanish onions as well as herbs and spices such as sweet paprika, bay leaves, thyme and ground coriander.

You can also use pork, lamb or venison as alternatives. Ladle the stew over noodles, pasta, polenta, rice or quinoa - all of these work well to absorb the flavours of the gravy.
