Alila, a prominent luxury resort chain, opened its new contemporary resort in China's Yangshuo county yesterday.

Built against a backdrop of mountains, rolling hills and the picturesque Li River, the 117-room Alila Yangshou is converted from an old sugar mill from the 1920s.

The original sugar cane loading dock has been transformed into a swimming pool overlooking the Li River. Room rates start at 1,380 yuan (S$281) a night.

Fans of the Mr Men Little Miss series of books and cartoons will be delighted to know that Hong Kong Gold Coast Hotel is offering a room package with a theme centred on the colourful characters from July 4 to Sept 3.

The world's first modular travel pillow can now be found on Kickstarter from now till July 27, at a discounted price of $45. When it launches on the market, it will cost $69.

The pillow is made up of three modules, Bobby (short cushion), Leonard (tall cushion) and the Couch (holding strap). Cushion modules can be placed anywhere along the flexible holding strap to suit the user's preferred resting position and neck size.

Made of velour and high-rebound memory foam, it can be rolled into a compact bundle 12cm in diameter.
