At the Sofitel Singapore City Centre, guests taking the lift might hear an unusually polite voice behind them: "Pardon me, this is my floor. Please allow me to exit."

But this isn't a fellow guest. The voice belongs to Sophie, one of two robot butlers that deliver items such as towels, toiletries and bottled water to the hotel's 223 guest rooms.
