WHO: Consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist Ms Shirin Jacob, 58. She splits her time between Singapore and Europe. Her daughter Tara, 31, lives in London. Dr Jacob spent two months in Bulgaria last autumn.

Destination: Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. Bulgaria has my favourite mix of history, culture, art and hearty food. It's a melting pot where people welcomed me with open arms. There is something for everyone: sightseeing, hiking, sunbathing at the Black Sea, skiing in winter, and a burgeoning cafe culture. It's also a very affordable country.
