SINGAPORE - When Ms Karen Lim first laid eyes on Mr Ngawang Tshering outside Paro Airport in Bhutan, she immediately found him attractive. He was tall, good-looking, well-mannered and soft-spoken - and he would be her personal tour guide.

But Ms Lim had not been looking for love. Instead, she had come to Bhutan in search of peace.
