FLYING WITH BOOKS

Jetstar, joining forces with the National Reading Movement, started what it calls the world's first flying book exchange yesterday.

During the Big Book Swap, more than 500 books and best-selling titles donated by the National Library Board, MPH Bookstores, Select Books, Book Point and Write Editions were distributed to passengers at the boarding gates of select Jetstar flights at Changi Airport Terminal 1 yesterday.

Passengers could read their books inflight and on their holiday and place them in the seat pockets on their return flight for the next group of passengers.

The Big Book Swap will take place on all Jetstar Asia flights till Aug 31. Passengers can contribute their own books to the flying book club by collecting Book Swap stickers from the Jetstar crew and leaving their books onboard.

CULINARY PRODIGY AT REGENT TAIPEI

Wunderkind chef Flynn McGarry will helm the kitchen of the Regent Taipei hotel from Sept 1 to 3.

The 17-year-old American culinary prodigy started cooking for family and friends when he was 10 and by 12, he was hosting curated tasting menus at Eureka, a supper club he operated out of his mother's home in Los Angeles.

He became the youngest honouree on Zagat's 30 Under 30 Los Angeles list in 2014 and was named one of the top 25 most influential teens by Time Magazine.

He will be serving his contemporary American cuisine at the hotel's renowned Robin's Grill steakhouse, where guests may opt for a five-course set lunch menu at $159 a person or an eight-course set dinner at $368 a person, inclusive of selected wines.

The Regent Taipei will also launch an exclusive Dine With Flynn McGarry room package, which includes a one-night stay in a deluxe room, a breakfast buffet at Brasserie and a five-course set lunch cooked by Flynn, for $293 a person.
