I'd prepared a pep talk timed for delivery just before my son collected his Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) results last month.

It was meant as a final booster to affirm his efforts, give hope and soften the blow if things went south: It is not his score that determines the path ahead, but what we make of it. And no matter what number shows up on the result slip, it changes nothing - not how much we love him, not how much he's worth as a person, not how much game time he's allowed.
